POEMS

Hillel

I sit here on the couch
in my morning spot,
before the world has awoken

even Buckley still snores

birds begin to chirp
…the day has begun

I’ve yet to find trouble and ill-ease…
I’ve let go,
Actually that’s not true
I’ve yet begun to wrestle this day
the Universe is still my wash

What does my existence mean? ‘
Surely Hillel was on to something

when he said:
”If I am only for myself, what am I”

Conversely…
my brother and sister’s own salvation and redemption,
is perhaps my only ticket back to Eden

If that’s my lot,
I hope I get used to eternal damnation
