Separation

It was the first time I’ve missed Kelly this way

I began to feel our separation the night before my flight, even though we were still sleeping side by side
At first I thought it was something I ate, my sinuses, or perhaps the mold in my lungs

But after a day or two of marvelous surf, breathtaking sunsets, and the lush green jungle, I missed her still more

Even the animated monkeys and exotic parrots were unable to make me smile the way she does
